Utrecht, 19 november 2008 - De Nederlandse e-shops zijn in 2008 slechter bereikbaar geweest dan in 2007. Dit blijkt uit onderzoek van WatchMouse naar de prestaties van webwinkels. Was in 2007 de gemiddelde uptime 99.5%, in 2008 is die gedaald tot 99.4%. Verder zijn er 6 bedrijven in het rode gebied tegenover 4 in 2007. Geen goede score in de aanloop naar één van de drukste tijden van het jaar op online winkelgebied; de feestdagen.

People using this station as a primary master may see an effect in the performance graphs since the services of this checkpoint were taken over by other machines on our network. Dit keer met acht nieuwe controlestations die in de afgelopen twee maanden operationeel zijn geworden. De nieuwe stations bevinden zich in: India, Israël, Japan, Nieuw-Zeeland, Rusland, Zuid-Afrika, Zwitserland en de VS. WatchMouse heeft nu 25 controlestations in grote Europese en Noord-Amerikaanse steden en nog eens 10 stations verdeeld over Afrika, het Midden-Oosten, Zuid-Amerika en Oceanië.

De uitgebreide infrastructuur van WatchMouse maakt het mogelijk websites en webapplicaties zeer nauwkeurig te controleren vanuit het perspectief van gebruikers op verschillende locaties in de wereld. Controle vanuit verschillende locaties is noodzakelijk omdat de prestaties van een website afhankelijk zijn van de locatie van de gebruiker. (het is mogelijk dat klanten in de VS een site snel te zien krijgen terwijl gebruikers in bijvoorbeeld Duitsland op dezelfde site een foutmelding krijgen of lang moeten wachten tot de site geladen is). WatchMouse CTO Mark Pors legt uit: " Zelfs als uw site prima functioneert vanuit uw eigen hoofdkantoor is het nog steeds mogelijk dat klanten de site vanuit een andere locatie niet kunnen bereiken". Aangezien een langzame site of een site met fouten frustrerend is voor gebruikers en de reputatie van uw bedrijf kan schaden en zelfs tot afnemende verkoopcijfers kan leiden is het van essentieel belang om vanuit meerdere locaties te controleren.

Het overgrote deel van het bedrijfsleven is zich bewust van de noodzaak van wereldwijde prestatie-monitoring. Daarom verbaasde het WatchMouse dat ze prestatieproblemen aantroffen op de sites van enkele grote internationale organisaties, waaronder de sociale netwerksite Facebook. Uit recent onderzoek door WatchMouse blijkt dat facebook.com goed presteert in de VS maar vanuit andere locaties ernstige gebruikersproblemen heeft.

We bieden deze optie al vanaf het begin aan en waarschuwen webmasters hiermee zodra er een probleem is met hun website, webapplicatie of een andere dienst die wij controleren.

De dekking en snelheid van deze methode is altijd erg goed geweest in Europa, Australië en het grootste deel van Azië, maar soms minder goed in Noord- en Zuid-Amerika. Om een constant hoog niveau van betrouwbaarheid te garanderen hebben we contracten met verschillende sms-providers en bieden we redundante gateways naar het mobiele netwerk.

Vanaf nu beschikken we over een sterk verbeterde gateway voor de Amerikaanse markt, waardoor snellere levering en een bredere dekking van mobiele aanbieders in Noord-Amerika gegarandeerd is.

  • Het is nu mogelijk de controle van uw site te laten uitvoeren door een aantal specifieke controlestations.
    Naarmate we meer controlestations toevoegen, krijgen we dit verzoek namelijk steeds vaker.
    Hoe? Kies in de uitgebreide modus van uw regelinstellingen de optie 'Selectie controlestation'. Nu kunt u de controlestations selecteren die deze regel moeten gaan uitvoeren. Als uw volgorde staat ingesteld op "Master" worden de extra controlestations alleen gebruikt voor de "second opinion"-controles. Selecteer minstens drie stations voor voldoende redundantie.
  • Nieuwe IMAP- en POP3-controles ondersteunen nu SSL en kunnen 'retour'- testberichten versturen.
    Deze testberichten worden in de volgende monitoringcyclus gecontroleerd zodat de e-mailverificatie een volledig gesloten proces is.
    Hoe? Kies in uw regelinstellingen bij de IMAP- en POP3-regels de optie "SSL" bij encryptie. Zorg ervoor dat u in de uitgebreide modus werkt, zodat er een veld is voor een e-mailadres. Als er in dit veld een e-mailadres wordt gevonden, wordt in elke cyclus een bericht gestuurd naar dit adres. Bij de volgende controle wordt gecontroleerd of het bericht goed is aangekomen.
  • Nieuwe DNS-controles met nog meer functies.
    Test op A, CNAME, MX, NS, PTR en AAAA records en test deze op onze local resolvers, op uw naamservers of op specifieke DNS-servers. De huidige regeltypen dnsa en dnsns zullen binnenkort worden vervangen door dit nieuwe dns-regeltype. Hoe? Typ in de uitgebreide modus van uw regelinstellingen de te controleren naam of het IP- adres, selecteer het type en klik op "zoek". Selecteer nu de DNS-servers die gecontroleerd moeten worden, stel de ander opties in en klik op "bewaar".
  • In de meeste gevallen zal de log viewer nu ook de DNS resolve-tijden voor elke controle laten zien. Gaandeweg zullen we deze functionaliteit bij elk type controle toevoegen.
  • De structuur van abonnementen op de website is flexibeler geworden waardoor klanten meer typen regels en intervals kunnen combineren.
  • Er zijn grote verbeteringen aangebracht in de reseller-interface waardoor het beheren van de klantaccounts eenvoudiger is geworden voor de resellers.

Verder zijn er nog vele verbeteringen aangebracht en kleine probleempjes opgelost. In de change log vindt u een overzicht van alle veranderingen.
